The Beauty of Targeted Spending Offers

I’ve recently received a few targeted promotions for rewards cards I currently hold, offering additional points bonuses for meeting spending requirements in a certain time period. I don’t usually pay much attention to these offers since I’m usually already working to meet spend requirements on new cards, or spending on my favorite card the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Cardbut Jordan and I haven’t applied for many rewards cards in the last 6 months since we’re looking at houses at the moment.

That, and the fact that we’ve been burning lots of points lately means I need to pad my points balance. I need to. So here are the offers I’ll be looking to take advantage of to help me do that. Every little bit helps.

These offers are all targeted, so check your email and snail mail to see if you got lucky. Here are the ones I received.

Hyatt Visa 5,000 Gold Passport Bonus

This is the offer I’m most excited about. I will get a bonus of 5,000 Gold Passport points after spending $3,000 by December 31, 2013 on my Hyatt Visa card.

Hyatt Visa Fall Promotion

It’s no secret that I love Hyatt. Jordan and I just got back from another epic trip where we passed through Paris and stayed at the Vendome for a couple of days. In all fairness, I love Hyatt more than the average human because I’m a Diamond member. Which means I get free breakfast, late check out, etc.

But even if I wasn’t a Diamond member, I would still love Hyatt because of its generous award chart, which makes it easy to book club rooms and suites. Plus, it’s a transfer partner of Chase’s Ultimate Rewards program. It’s a great relationship. If Hyatt devalues their chart, I will take it a lot harder than the Hilton deval.

You automatically get Platinum status with Hyatt by holding their rewards card, which is still very nice. The Hyatt card also comes with a free annual certificate good for categories 1-4. It’s a solid card.

Anyway, back to the offer. I can easily spend $3,000 in a 3 month window. Probably in my sleep. So I will gladly take this 5,000 Gold Passport injection, as I’m working on a trip that will include a visit to the new Andaz Maui.

You can go to hyatt.mychasebonus.com/fall5K if you have an enrollment code to enter.

Southwest 3,000 Rapid Rewards Bonus

Jordan just received an offer on her Southwest Airlines® Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card for 3,000 bonus Rapid Rewards points after spending $5,000 by December 31, 2013. Not as lucrative, but I’m desperate for some Rapid Rewards points, since we’re running low and I prefer to not transfer Ultimate Rewards to Southwest.

Obviously, this isn’t as rewarding as the Hyatt deal, since I have to spend $2,000 more and the bonus is 3,000 points. I’ll still probably make this happen since 8,000 Southwest Rapid Reward points (which is what I will have after completing the spending) can go a long way when you have the Southwest Companion Pass. Too bad Southwest is devaluing their Wanna Get Away Fares in March of next year.

I also received the same promotion, so we could double up on this offer.

Go to southwest.com/cmholiday if you need to register.

Other Spending Options

We also received an email offering 3x points per $1 on select categories with our Citi AAdvantage card.

This offer is capped at 2,500 AAdvantage miles, so I might dabble with this one. We’ll see.

Closure

I hope you’ve received some targeted offers as well, and hopefully they were even better than mine. Now that I’m at a stand-still when it comes to applying for rewards cards, maximizing spending offers, category bonuses (like the Chase Freedom 5x points this quarter at Amazon and select department stores) and rewards portals will become an even more integral part of my points earning plan. Of course that includes some manufactured spending, too.

(Disclaimer: I receive a referral credit for the Southwest rewards card, but not for the other cards mentioned in this post. But don’t let that stop you from applying for those offers! And as always, thank you if you decide to apply through the blog!)
